RuPaul returns to The Lobby Bar

by Shaun Knittel - SGN Staff Writer

RuPaul's Drag U
Monday nights
at 8 PM
The Lobby Bar

RuPaul is back at The Lobby Bar every Monday night with her brand-new show RuPaul's Drag U, a series where everyday women compete in a series of challenges to unleash their inner diva. But Ru isn't alone in this endeavor; each week at The Lobby Bar, rotating drag queen professors Gaysha Starr, GLAMAZONIA, and Lily Armani will host Seattle's only official RuPaul's Drag U viewing party with performances, free giveaways, and Absolut Vodka drink specials.

RuPaul's Drag U premiered July 19 at The Lobby Bar with professors Armani, GLAMAZONIA and Starr co-hosting the kickoff party in their fiercest summer bathing suits.

The show is a riot; RuPaul has opened her "school for girls" at RuPaul's Drag U, where real women undergo extreme transformation, drag queen style! The pupils are frumpy, shy, and anything but self-confident, but they have the insight and instruction of beloved RuPaul's Drag Race alums JuJubee, Raven, Pandora Boxx, Morgan McMichaels, Nina Flowers, Shannel, Ongina, and Tammie Brown, who teach everything they learned from Ru. One woman becomes valedictorian of her class, "draguating" with sass, self-respect, and a sense that anything is possible.

On each episode, the women are evaluated based on their "Drag Point Average" - going through a computer-enhanced "Dragulator" machine, performing a lip-sync, and being ranked on overall transformation - in order to be named best student on "Draguation Day."

RuPaul's Drag U is camp at its finest and - next to Glee - is the Gayest thing on TV since Liberace. Attending the weekly 8 p.m. viewing party at The Lobby Bar makes the show that much more fun; the audience really gets into it and the laughter and - pardon the pun - gaiety are infectious. Plus, with Gaysha Starr, GLAMAZONIA, and Lily Armani on-hand, you are guaranteed a good time as each one of them brings their own special brand of camp, comedy, and drag tips to the table.

The three professors have already announced that on the day of the finale, they will each give a local woman a makeover and compete in their very own Seattle Drag U competition!

I've got a few tips to better enhance your RuPaul's Drag U viewing experience at The Lobby Bar. First, arrive early. This is a very popular show and although The Lobby Bar has ample seating, seats go fast. Second, if you are sitting on the mezzanine area above the bar, order from the roving "cocktailer," or simply get your Absolut Vodka at the VIP bar in the back. Lastly, bring friends!

See you there, Seattle!
