posted Friday, July 23, 2010 - Volume 38 Issue 30 Sequins meet sponges at drag queen carwashby Shaun Knittel - SGN Staff Writer Last Saturday afternoon, drivers got the chance to have their cars washed at the most fabulous carwash in town: The Imperial Sovereign Court of Seattle & The Olympic and Rainier Empire's 'Hair and Heels' drag queen car wash at C.C. Attle's. No truck was too big and no car was too dirty as the Court of Seattle members rolled up their skirts and got to work hand-washing vehicles for a suggested $10 donation to benefit the Court's Seattle Scholarship Fund. When all was said and done, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., reigning Emperor Rainier XXXVI Harrie Lee, reigning Prince Duane David, Princess Sahara Dior D, King of Hearts Patrick Duey, Queen of Hearts Jackie Scott, Miss Gay Seattle GLAMAZONIA, Mr. Gay Seattle Michael McQueen, and past empresses Olympia XVI Sofonda Peters, Olympia XXVIII Gaysha Starr, Olympia XXX LaTrina Bidet, Olympia XXXV Aleksa Manila, Olympia XXXVII Nina Maxwell, and past emperors Rainier XXXIV Bruce Butler, Rainier XXXV Eric Bonesteel, past Queen of the Seas Tootsie LaFleur, Tony Onorati, and Imperial Princess XXVI Precious Cargo washed an estimated 50 cars and one bicycle to raise $651 for the Court of Seattle Scholarship fund. "A few people drove by and although they didn't have the time to get their car washed, they gave us a cash donation," Precious Cargo, the events coordinator, told SGN. "I want to thank each and every one from the Court and the LGBT community that participated in the event. The weather was perfect and we had lots of fun." The Imperial Sovereign Court of Seattle & The Olympic and Rainier Empire is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit social/charitable organization whose purpose is to provide funds and services to other non-profits with the LGBT community of Seattle and King County, Washington. The funds are raised throughout the year at various fundraisers and donations from individual and corporate sponsors. The Court of Seattle annually provides educational scholarships to deserving high school or post high school undergraduates who reside in the state of Washington. "We believe that by encouraging the pursuit of post high school educational goals we are helping tomorrow's individuals develop their potential and thus further enhance our community," the Court states on their website, www.imperialcourtofseattle.com. "The long-range purpose of these scholarships is to enhance self-esteem, recognize diversity, support personal development and acknowledge and support sensitivity and acceptance of human rights. For this reason, preference will be given to self-identified Gay and Lesbian students." The Court of Seattle's General Membership Meeting is held the second Wednesday of each month at Neighbours Nightclub (Underground). Meetings start at 7:30 p.m. and are open to the public. |
