The Seattle Dyke March saw record attendance this Pride weekend, bringing out a crowd of nearly 3,000. After two hours of entertainment and speakers, the march set out from the south plaza of Seattle Central Community College, heading up E. Pine St., and going north on 12th Ave. They then headed west down E. Mercer St. and back to Broadway, where they were met with tremendous cheer from Capitol Hill Pride Festival patrons.
Hundreds joined in on the route as the Spokane Giant-Ass Drum Corps led the march with their awesome bucket beat.
The Seattle Dyke March is an annual tradition. The theme of this year's Dyke March was "Connecting to the International Community - Dyke, Lesbian, Bi, Trans, and Queer." According to their website, the march and rally seeks to "create an atmosphere where we can learn about different aspects of our communities and become inspired to take action."
Performances included a demonstration from Seven-Star Women's Kung Fu, a demonstration from Queer Seattle Tango, various musicians, and more.
Speakers included Lillie Cridland of the Seattle LGBT Commission, Jacque Larrainzer, Nitika Raj of Trikone NW, and many others.
The Seattle Dyke March, like many other marches nationally and internationally, happens the Saturday evening before the Sunday Pride Parade.
This year, Dyke March organizers proved to the community that the tradition really does continue, and it's only getting stronger.
