ENSEMBLE THEATRE
On the evenings of Friday, June 25 and Saturday, June 26, at 7:30 p.m., Washington Ensemble Theatre presents “Breaking Character” by Queer Teen Ensemble, led by co-artistic director Jessica Hatlo, at The Little Theater (19th Ave. E. between Mercer and Roy). The performances will be the end result of the Ensemble’s model for ensemble-generated new works, where students collaboratively produce a piece of theatre based on their own experiences surrounding identity, love, and Queerness. The month-long intensive began with directed free-writing that was eventually shared with the group and was later used to generate something new. This phase continued until there was a sense of cohesion, and texts were then molded into a working script. Seattle Quake RFC – wearing dresses – will take on the Seattle RFC Women’s team, The Breakers. This event is similar in style to the annual Dykes vs. Drag Queens softball game. On Friday, June 25 and Saturday, June 26 at 8 p.m., Seattle Men’s Chorus and Seattle Women’s Chorus join forces for the first time ever in an extravaganza called Glitter and Be Gay at McCaw Hall (321 Mercer St.). The concert is a tribute to two great American composers: Leonard Bernstein, a prodigy renowned for his energy and talents as both a conductor and composer, and Stephen Sondheim, the undisputed master of the modern Broadway musical. PRIDE FESTIVAL 2010
On Saturday, June 26, from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., the second annual Capitol Hill Pride Festival will be held on Broadway, between E. John and E. Roy Sts. This is a free, all-ages festival celebrating diversity and community pride. The festival is open to everyone – LGBT or straight – from any background. The five-block festival will feature four public stages, a Kids’ Zone, Faerie Circle stage, and over 200 booths and vendors. Attractions include live entertainment, music, singing, face/body painting, and a Doggie Drag Costume Contest.

the Dyke Rally & March. The first Clothesline Project took place in Massachusetts in 1990 so that survivors could air out society's insidiously silent "dirty laundry." From Wednesday, July 7, to Sunday, July 11, Bellingham will hold the B Proud Pride festival in Bellingham, WA. Bellingham Pride began 10 years ago under the direction of Whatcom PFLAG, as an event with roughly a half-dozen tables in Fairhaven Park on a Sunday afternoon in June. It has been in its current location of Depot Market Square (Home of the Bellingham Farmers Market) for four years, and this will be the third year in which the festival has had a parade. While most pride festivals tend to take place in June (National Gay & Lesbian Month), we recognize that we can offer a festival during July when Bellingham weather is nicer and no other prides are generally taking place. This is our 10th Anniversary of pride and we strive to be a festival everyone can be proud of. We offer events that cater to all aspects of our LGBTQQI2A community. VANCOUVER, BC PRIDE 2010
On Sunday, August 1, Vancouver, BC celebrates Pride 2010. Spanning 20 blocks and attracting an audience of over 600,000 in 2009, the Pride Parade is Vancouver’s premier celebration of culture and diversity. The 2010 Pride Parade will start in the heart of downtown Vancouver at noon at Robson and Thurlow, then head west down the hill to Denman street, following Denman to Pacific and Beach Avenue before finishing at the Sunset Beach festival site. Celebrations continue after the Parade at the Sunset Beach festival site. There will be a crowd that reaches over 110,000 people in the park listening to live music by local performers and headliners on the Festival Stage. There are 125 booths with a diverse range of products and services with drinking and dancing at the beer garden. The Vancouver Pride Society adopted a three-year theme of “Educate, Liberate, Celebrate,” focusing on one of the three elements each year. In 2010, we focus on Liberate, and what it means to be free. In parts of the world and even in our own country, Pride is still a movement to liberate. Pride is a vehicle to educate, liberate and celebrate and every summer, that’s what we do here in Vancouver.
