An elementary school in central China has launched a new program intended to eliminate nelly behavior in its boy students.

Qinlinglu Elementary School in Zhengzhou, Henan Province, announced its 'Looking for a Real Man' initiative on June 1.

Boy students will be taught how to act more manly and will be required to take a special oath, swearing to act like 'real men,' according to a report in Dahe Daily newspaper.

Teacher Wang Jinhua complained that boys have become "more and more girly" in the 14 years he has been teaching.

"During class breaks their favorite game is elastic band skipping, which is a typical girl's game," Wang said.

"And the boys are very fragile," Wang continued. "If we just scold them a bit they will cry out loudly."

Girls, on the other hand, have become more butch, Wang said.

"They not only like physical fighting, but also are quite straightforward and have strong characters."

School headmaster Cao Jianping said he planned to hire more male teachers to provide masculine role models for his boy students.

"In the home, mothers tend to be in charge of childcare," Cao said. "Also China's one child policy makes parents overly protective and inclined to spoil their child."

The Chinese government rewards couples who have only one child as a way of controlling population.
