It's almost that time of year again, when the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence are ready to give away all the grant money they've spent the entire year raising.
For the past several years, the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, Abbey of St. Joan have been giving out grants annually to non-profit 501(c)3 organizations in Washington state. The organizations who have qualified for grants in the past have all been supportive of the LGBT community, providing services for every type of need from HIV/AIDS services, STD prevention, LGBT veterans, LGBT youth, LGBT rights, and more.
"Since our grant program was started, we've given away thousands and thousands of dollars to help support our community", says Sister Dawnna Creation, grants chairnun.
According to Sister Karma Za Betch, last year, the Abbey of St. Joan gave away over $16,000. This year, they are projecting they'll give away over $20,000.
To apply to receive funds, visit the Abbey's website at www.theabbey.org. Follow the "Sisters Charity Grant Fund" link in the lower right corner, and voila! You can download and print the application or fill it out online.
All applications for the 2010 Charity Granting Cycle must be submitted to the Sisters no later than 5p.m. on June 30, so don't get so caught up in Pride that you forget!
The grant money will be distributed at the Sister's celebratory anniversary party on July 17, time and location TBA.
The Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence are an order of 21st-century nuns dedicated to the promulgation of universal joy and the expiation of stigmatic guilt. They work to raise money for AIDS charities, fight for Queer rights and visibility, do safer-sex outreach, and strive diligently to never take themselves so seriously that they forget to have fun. The Sisters welcome all races, creeds, genders, and sexual orientations.
