Motorcycle Awareness
Ride Meetup
May 23, 8-9 AM
Renton Motorcycle Center
(3710 E. Valley Road,
Renton, WA)
On Sunday, May 23, over 40 motorcycle meetup groups from across the U.S., Canada, England, and Australia will set out on the first annual Worldwide Motorcycle Awareness Ride to raise awareness of motorcycle safety. Over 300 members of Seattle-area motorcycle groups will meet up at the Renton Motorcycle Center in Renton, WA to join the ride, wearing brightly colored T-shirts which read "Can You See Me Now?"
Vik Livingston, a longtime biker who has been involved with Dykes on Bikes for over 30 years, called the ride a "once in a lifetime event."
"The event is a dream come true for me," Livingston said. "From the beginning of my riding time, to ride across country has been a fantasy. Now it's coming true."
The Awareness Ride was created in response to an accident that took place on March 25, 2010 in Phoenix, AZ, where four riders were killed and five injured while stopped at a red light. The group was hit from behind by a distracted truck driver. The victims of the Phoenix accident were members of the Phoenix MC Kruzers and the Phoenix Motorcycle Riders Group.
"This tragic accident has motivated us to action that we hope will result in safer roads for everyone, said John Fox, organizer of the Phoenix Motorcycle Riders Group.
