GSBA Scholarship Program 20th Anniversary
May 21
Seattle Hyatt at Olive 8 (1635 8th Ave.)
On Friday, May 21 the Greater Seattle Business Association (GSBA) will be celebrating the 20th anniversary of its scholarship program at the downtown Seattle Hyatt at Olive 8 (1635 8th Ave.). The celebratory banquet will be hosted and emceed by Seattle City Councilmember Sally Clark, and will feature State Senator Joe McDermott, King County Executive Dow Constantine, and Port of Seattle Commissioner Rob Holland as presenters.
The scholarships typically go to support undergraduate LGBT students as well as peer allies who exhibit leadership potential, demonstrate strong academic abilities, and are actively involved in school and community organizations.
The first of its kind in the United States, the GSBA established its scholarship program in 1990 for Lesbian and Gay students who, because of their sexual orientation, often found themselves in great financial need with no other means of support. To date, the GSBA scholarship fund has awarded more than 350 scholarships, totaling more than $1 million to Washington state undergraduate students.
This year, the GSBA will award over $135,000 to LGBT and allied students and exceed the $1 million mark in scholarships given.
As well as the new GSBA scholars, various past scholars and founders of the GSBA Scholarship Program will be in attendance to celebrate the GSBA's newest up-and-coming leaders of tomorrow.
Ticket prices are $100 for members of the GSBA, $125 for non-members, and $75 for students. Walk-ins cost $20 more at the door
The GSBA is the nation's largest LGBT Chamber of Commerce. Founded in 1981, the GSBA is a vibrant community organization with a broad and diverse membership base whose mission is to combine business development, social action, and leadership to expand economic opportunities for the LGBT community and those who support equality for all.
